I’ve been at a loss for words the past few days. The members of Eyehategod hold a special place in my heart for a number of reasons. I am very sad to say goodbye to Joey LaCaze, their drummer, who passed away on August 23, 2013.
Many years ago my apartment was robbed and I lost all of my equipment. I took a job in the fashion industry to save up to buy all of my equipment back. It really sucked. I did it for five years. I had just left that job a few months was asked to shoot Eyehategod in 2009. It was at that show that I really found my love for shooting shows. It was that show that started me off. Not only did I get to work off my aggression, I got to cover musicians whose talent I loved and got practice what I loved doing most. It was like everything fell into place. Because of that, they will always hold a special place in my heart.
Last time I saw them all play I remembered watching Joey drum and being so impressed and angry at myself that I didn’t bring my camera. I swore that next time you all were in town I’d make sure to take better photos of him. I never thought I wouldn’t get that chance.
